Bread and Dripping

Donna Foster
1982 Australia 17 minutes English

Four women recount their lives in Australia during the economic depression of the 1930’s. They tell of political struggles, their efforts to obtain work and their battles to maintain their families at a time when the working class was bearing the brunt of hardships of an ailing capitalist economy. The film makes extensive use of archival footage and photographs from the 1930’s to present a fascinating insight into the lives of women and how they were affected individually and as a group during this time.
