Lord of the Bush

Tom Zubrycki
1990 Australia 56 minutes English

This film is a portrait of eccentric British developer Lord McAlpine and his newfound domain – the town of Broome in the remote north of Western Australia. Broome was once a famous pearling port. Again it is rapidly booming – this time as a tourist “paradise”. McAlpine, on the surface, appears sensitive to environmental concerns, including the rights of Aboriginal people, but his long term motives are questionable. Is he just a clever hunter mesmerising his prey ?
