A student spends some time as a guard alongside the old man who officially occupies the position. In the silence and solitude of the mountain, the two men go beyond their initial misunderstanding created by their differences of character and class background. Commissioned by Edison as a documentary on dike guards, this is Olmi’s first feature length film.
