Jorge Degas, a Brazilian musician who emigrated to Denmark, returns with his wife and children to Rio de Janeiro, back to the Cantagalo favela, where he spent all his youth and where his family still lives, captives of a desperate daily life which he could bear no longer. Because his sisters, nieces and nephews are caught in the vicious circle of poverty, violence and crime which plagues the “wonderful city”, behind the extraordinary scenery shown to the tourists. Through his eyes, the film reveals those close to him, the man Alexander behind the singer Macarrao, the man Christiano behind Processo, the eighteen-year-old cocaine dealer, and the man Marco Aurelio behind “M”, a mafioso and ringleader.
