In 1988, a young executive takes over the management of Reuge, a company producing Swiss music boxes located in the Vaudois village of Sainte Croix in the Jura. Stefan Müller plans to modernise the last big firm of its kind to compete with the Japanese. The film covers the six year restructuring period, from the first planning meeting to the start-up of the completely automated assembly line. It follows the feeling of the workers, foremen and managers throughout their fight to save the company, their fears and uncertainties, their disappointments and restored confidence.
