Working for the Enemy

If Kevin, aged 35, wants to carry on receiving his unemployment benefit as he has done for the past eighteen years, he must go on a training course to learn how to work. This is the new regulation, called Project Work, brought in by the Conservatives. It has recently been launched in his home town, Hull, in the north of England. But Kevin doesn’t want to play the game and compromise with the system he challenges. He wants to continue painting. His girlfriend, nineteen-year-old Robbie, is a former drug addict from a troubled family. She works in a dressmaking workshop, where work conditions are hard and salaries low. She considers that it would be better if he contributed a little more to the household budget. They are faced with planning a future together, with no money and no prospects? Can Kevin harness his creativity as an artist for the sake of their common future and, at the same time, remain loyal to his cause never to work for the enemy?
