Un Chant d’amour

Jean Genet
1950 France 25 minutes no words

Leitmotif shots of two hands trying to pass a bunch of flowers from one prison window to another is the only lyrical note in the film Chant d’amour, which recounts the more or less fantasized love of one inmate for another. It reconstitutes several scenes of prison life bluntly but without pornography. This work was banned by the censorship for many years.
