In the vineyards and orchards of the Ardèche region. “Can you still make a living in the countryside from farming jobs? My neighbours, Humberto, Christian, Guy and Carmen spin the threads of their life, not to say survival, as farm hands as best they can. Fully steeped in the hardships of seasonal work, they go from grape-harvesting and wood-cutting to hay-making, inventing for themselves their own moments of leisure and freedom. In a world of farming, caught helplessly between imposed modernisation and nostalgic archaism with no future, they sketch out their modest dignity as human beings.” (Jean-Marie Barbe)
