The aircraft carrier Kiev was once the pride and symbol of the Soviet Navy. Decommissioned in 1994, the rusting ship began her final voyage. She was to end her days at anchor as a theme park for tourists in China. This films presents the men who had served aboard the Kiev since 1972. The stories of these men are closely bound up with the fate of the ship. “The flag,” says one of them, “is in tatters, and so are our lives.” For with the fall of the Soviet Union, these men have also lost their places in society. The Kiev continues to exist in their memories’a ghost ship that sails on through the dreams of its former crew.
