In Guinea, three spaces dedicated to transforming raw material convey three ways of inhabiting the world. The first is delimited by the aluminium route’from the bauxite mining in Guinea up to the ingot casting in Canada, as well as the recycling by the Guinea craftsmen. A long itinerary that has positioned Guinea in the world’s new economy. This space opens up a second: the world of the craftsmen, where the history of daily life is apparent in each of their patient gestures. Theirs is a trade that developed as the rural exodus urbanised African societies. The third space involves the symbolic dimension of transforming matter. In a Conakry gymnasium, the performances of the Soleil d’Afrique dance troupe remind us that human beings belong to a life-giving earth, an earth that unites all the peoples of the world. In Guinea, these three spaces exist side by side. Their paths are different but they frequently cross, belonging to today’s world and its future.
