Sol de noche. La Historia de Olga y Luis

Pablo Milstein
2002 Argentina 78 minutes Spanish

In 1958, the young doctor Aredez and his wife Olga settle in the small town of Libertador General San Martín, in north-west Argentina. Ledesma, one of the country’s most powerful industrial groups, dealing in sugar, paper, citrus fruits, is very influential in the region. The young and idealistic doctor demands better working conditions for the workers and soon finds himself in conflict with the management. On 24th March 1976, Luis Aredez is illegally arrested during the night. The dark period of the military dictatorship has begun. After a year in prison, he is released but, two months later, goes missing for good, as do 400 other people in the region. Besides telling the tragic story of Olga and Luis, the film pays tribute to the victims of oppression and to those who fight to keep the flame of memory alight, in the hope of better times.
