“In 2001, my heart, which until then had given me no trouble, began beating wildly, then stopping. At times, I felt faint as if experiencing ‘small deaths’. After putting it down to my ‘artist’s sensitivity’, my doctor finally decided to send me for tests: one night my heart had stopped beating for twelve seconds. Enough to make me go really crazy! A pacemaker was urgently required. The operation, which was supposed to have laid me up for only 24 hours, led to numerous complications. To exorcise my fear, I began to think about a subject that had haunted me for several years, one that I now held close to my heart…” ( Jacqueline Veuve).
