Defamation

Yoav Shamir
2009 United States; Denmark; Austria; Israel 93 minutes English; Hebrew

What exactly is anti-Semitism, two generations on from the Shoah? What reality lies under the weight of this word? From New-York to Kiev, from Moscow to Auschwitz, Defamation leads Yoav Shamir across Europe and the United-States to describe the current state of anti-Semitism with an uncompromising eye, to follow in parallel an Israeli secondary school trip to Auschwitz and the worldwide activities of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) in its fight against anti-Semitism, to revisit the polemic that opposed Norman G. Finkelstein (The Holocaust Industry, 2000) and ADL leader, Abraham Foxman. Vague reporting criteria, personal rivalries, power games and political strategies, fear of the other. Here, anti-Semitism takes on multiple forms, both real and imaginary.
