Bruno d’Angelo, a young teacher from Naples, is assigned for his first post to a poor suburb of Rome. He is given a “difficult” class of truant boys, edging towards delinquency. Refusing discouragement, he opens up a dialogue with his pupils, visits their families, digs into the daily life of the children and takes them with him to discover the world and its treasures of knowledge. His methods win him the disapproval of his colleagues and the school headmaster.
