In the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games, the Peruvian football team beat Austria to qualify for the semi-finals. An unpalatable victory for the Third Reich, and for the Olympic Committee… so they cancelled the match. Images of a stolen victory, of a country abandoned to its fate by the rest of the world, like an animal left on the wayside. Images of a nation shaken by the world’s turbulent, unpredictable events, surviving from day to day, where there is no longer anyone at the government’s helm. (Yann Lardeau)
Juan Alejandro Ramírez est né au Pérou. Il entreprend des études d’Anthropologie à Lima qu’il poursuit aux Etats-Unis. Après une période de voyages au cours de laquelle il exerce le métier de photographe, il s’inscrit dans une école de Cinéma à New York. Il écrit, dirige, réalise et monte ses propres films. Il vit et travaille en Afrique, en Asie et en Amérique Latine.
