In the villages of the Bontoc Igoroc, who live in the mountains in the Philippines, the old make up the village council, called Ato. It is the council’s responsibility to direct the village activities and the celebration of the rites. An old man tells of the group’s customs ans explains the meaning of the purification ceremonies.
