In 1981,the Turkish film-maker, Yilmaz Güney escaped from the prison of Isparta. He came to France where he has directed a new film “Le mur” (“The Wall”) which tells the story of a children’s revolt similar to the one he himself witnessed at the prison in Ankara in 1976. The film, which took ten weeks to make, was shot in an old monastery in Pont-Sainte-Maxence. To recreate a prison atmosphere, Güney forced his film crew and actors to live enclosed, shut out from the outside world. The film “Autour du mur” (“Around the Wall”) recounts this experience.
