From the summer holiday-makers on the Calais beaches to the winter fishermen in the Camargue, from the landless shepherds on the springtime transhumance in the Hautes-Pyrénées to the autumn woodpigeon hunters of the Gers, the film follows the heroes of another world – the hut-builders. Master craftsmen of the makeshift, they rule unchallenged over their ephemeral kingdoms. Whatever their background, their region, their favourite season, the hut-builders have the absolute certainty that their huts are on the strategic site that will enable them to live to full the passion which marks them off from ordinary people.
