Connu de nos services

Jean-Stéphane Bron
1997 Switzerland 64 minutes French

On reading the countless files that the government services had kept on him for thirteen years, Claude Muret, a former activist in the various extreme left-wing organisations in French-speaking Switzerland, discovers-at the age of fifty-the picture album of his youth. Thirteen years of existence, thirteen years of police records in which he finds not only the trace of his political activities but also the insignificant happenings of what may be suitably termed his private life. Page after page, we discover the climate of the times, the anti-establishment aspirations and élan of a generation, fragments of History, as well as snatches of stories… Through the crossed viewpoints of the activists and police officers who had carefully recorded entire stretches of their lives, and with Claude Muret and the former Lausanne policeman Ernest Hartmann as the main figures, the film confronts-with humour and tenderness-the actors of a generation that wanted to change life… with those who tirelessly sought to prevent them from succeeding.
