Conversations avec des immigrés rentrés au pays – Sekou Doucoure

“In March and April 94, I travelled around Senegal and Mali filming what was supposed to be five short subjects on the experiences of former immigrants to France who had decided to move back to their countries. The idea was to prepare a one hour composite film to be used as a platform for discussion and reflection. In the process, we discovered that each person had lots to say, a rich experience and strong personality. From the twelve hours of recorded material, I thus edited five portraits from 33 to 56 minutes long. This is the first, a conversation with Sékou Doucouré, carpenter and craftsman in his workshop in Tambacara, Yelimané, Mali.” (Michael Hoare)
