Damenwahl – Ein Film über Liebe

Annette Otto
2003 The Netherlands; Germany 55 minutes German

Love, passion, and necessities’ The filmmaker examines the deeper motives in parents’ relationship. What was the nature of their love? Her parents shared their lives for more than forty years. They ran a farm in a small village in Germany. During the last years of their marriage, both of them spent so much time on their own interests that the farm was seemingly all they had in common. Everyday, her father went off dancing in the local spa resorts and this became almost an obsession. There, he enjoyed the attention of women who dressed and behaved more traditionally than her mother did. Her mother’s passion became the local rifle-club, despite her husband’s disapproval. Damenwahl also is a family history, which shows that the choice of partner is influenced’consciously or subconsciously’by the lives of the former generation.
