De Roeping

Emmanuele, a 28 year old woman, lived for one and a half year in the monastery “Lioba”, a community situated by the seashore in the north of Holland. The community consists of 22 nuns. This film is an attempt to discover one novice’s motivation and portrays the larger attraction of religious dedication in the context of modern life. In the film Emmanuele is followed from August 1989 up to January 1990 when she did her holy vows.
