Deconstructing the myth-making machine hidden in hundreds of the regime’s newsreels, Rui Simões made this exciting film-essay on the history of Portugal. The filmmaker uncovers the threads of a possible revolutionary and Marxist reading of 60 years of Portuguese history, revisiting its archives and imaginary. The Revolution is the ineluctable and necessary outcome of the class struggle between the oppressed working class and the Salazarist bourgeoisie.
