Deux frères

Jean-Marc La Rocca
1993 France 94 minutes French

“Two brothers, the painter Hervé Di Rosa and the sculptor, Richard Di Rosa, nicknamed Buddy. Two highly colourful characters from Sete, with melodious accents and a florid vocabulary… The film was shot over a fifteen-month period covering the preparation of a 1992 exhibition put on in a New York and the brothers’ stay in New York for the exhibition preview. The film reveals the nature of the relationship between two brothers – the complex, ambiguous and impassioned side, but also a more burlesque side, full of complicity, somewhere between drama and comedy. The relationship is also enriching as it obviously nurtures both artists’ creativity. Besides the two brothers, the film also depicts the Di Rosa clan. Marius, the father, makes the stretchers for Hervé’s canvasses and the pedestals for Richard’s sculptures. Cousin Marcel does ironwork. The mother, Yvonne, would not miss one of her offspring’s exhibition previews for anything in the world, even if it were on the other side of the world – especially on the other side of the world.” (Jean-Marc La Rocca)
