With the search for a Gradiva in the land of the Tarahumara, the film establishes the link between the European literary essay and the ethnographic quest in Mexico. Shot in 1977, it was only in in 2009 that Régis Hébraud rediscovered it. (Nicole Brenez)

“It was the year before, the summer of 1977, just as the train pulled in to the platform at Divisadero, just when the storm burst, when all the women in simple sandals started to gather up their basketwork, their seed necklaces, their bark sculptures, and to run between the platform puddles, to cross the railway line, it was at that moment the encounter happened.” (Raymonde Carasco)
