El Grito

The Shout
Leobardo López Arretche
1968 Mexico 102 minutes Spanish

Banned until very recently, Arretche’s clandestine documentary chronicles the conflicts that arose in Mexico in 1968, just before the Olympic Games, between students protesting against the corrupt government, the police and the army. This extraordinary work was made by film students, and remains one of the few visual documents of all the events that led to the massacre of students in Tlatelolco: 1300 people were arrested, 400 were killed.
