Fala tu
Three inhabitants of Rio’s northern districts share the same passion for rap, which they use to express their hopes, problems and revolt. The film’s throughline, however, focuses more on their everyday life with its routine and dramatic events, than on the music itself. The camera follows them from improvised sound studios to pirate radio stations, from their places of worship to the intimacy of their homes. To keep alive, Macarrão sells lottery tickets. His pregnant wife would like one day to leave the Morro do Zinco slum. Togum, a Buddhist from Cavalcante, is a door-to-door salesman. His relationship with his father, whom he had not seen for twenty years, has taken a new turn since he discovered his father has cancer. Twenty-one-year-old Combatente works in telemarketing and still lives with her mother and grandmother at Vigário Geral. She is very politically engaged and has just joined the Santo Daime sect.
