Gossliwil

Béatrice Leuthold
1985 Switzerland 232 minutes German

Using images and sounds, our aim has been to reconstitute what we, from the town, saw at Gossliwil, what we learnt from the Gossliwil peasants and what we lived through with them. These five films present our point of view in answer to the question: “What is a peasant ?”. We believe that peasant culture expresses itself in the relationship of the peasant to his work, to his possessions and to time, and in the way he situates his existence between what has always been what will remain. In this film, we do not say where Gossliwil is. We hope that those who set out in search of it will find fragments of it in themselves, everywhere.
