Green Tea and Cherry Ripe

Solrun Hoaas
1988 Australia 56 minutes English; Japanese

After the second world war, some six hundred Japanese women left their country to join their husbands, Australian soldiers they had met during the occupation. The film portrays six of these women who set up a Japanese restaurant in Melbourne in a bid to break out of their isolation. Difficulties in adapting, conjugal problems, cultural differences and communication problems are highlighted with sensitivity and sympathy.
