Hors des jours étrangers

Jean-Paul Césaire
1979 France 120 minutes French; Creole

The economic, political and social situation of the Martinique island, 30 years after a bill has been passed to transfer some powers to the “département” (administrative structure). In the background of the film stand the 1977 Parliamentary elections that were to be won by the MP and mayor Aimé Césaire and his autonomist party. There are three possible ways for the future: independance, autonomy or “départementalisation”.
