Il Canto dei nuovi emigranti

The Song of the New Emigrants
Felice D’Agostino

2005 Italy 53 minutes Italian

The poet Franco Costabile committed suicide forty years ago. His life and work are inseparably linked to the Calabrese earth, and even more to the path that relentlessly swept immigrants from south to north. He was also one who highlighted the governments’ and politicians’ intolerable indifference, as well as the lasting poverty and abandon. Through the words of those who knew him, the landscapes and the roads where there is no going back, the faces captured by the newsreels of the time, the poet’s work is there to be heard, so as to give Calabria another history and transform its land into emotion and cries.
