“On 6th April 1994, the rage of purification struck Rwanda. The film’s images were taken two years after the genocide, in April 1996. The sound extracts, dated April 1994, are from radio Télévision Libre Mille collines (RTLM). RTLM began broadcasting in 1991 with support from the government in power and played a key role in triggering and co-ordinating the massacres. Since the new government came to power, mass executions have taken place and thousands of people have been imprisoned, with no sentences being passed. The main instigators of the genocide, including the RTLM compères, are still free”. (Eyal Sivan)
