James Baldwin: The Price of The Ticket

Karen Thorsen
1989 United States 87 minutes English

The life, works and beliefs of the late Black American writer and civil-rights activist, James Baldwin : what it is to be born black, impoverished, gay and gifted – in a world that has yet to understand that “all men are brothers.” Using rarely-seen archival footage, the film melds intimate interviews and eloquent public speeches with on-camera interviews with many of Baldwin’s life witnesses. A very intimate and astoundingly live portrait of the author who died in 1989, the very year when the film was completed.
