In 2003, Jean Rouch went to Mali. Since the death of Germaine Dieterlen, he had hoped that she would be given a traditional Dogon funeral, as was the case for Marcel Griaule. In Sangha, Jean Rouch found the sons of the informants whom Germaine and he had worked with over the long years of filming and research. With them, he talks about the singular relationship that had lasted sixty years with the lady they had called ?Madam Eternal?. True to the wish of Jean Rouch, who suddenly died before the planned ceremony, the Dogons pay tribute to her by lifting Germaine Dieterlen up to the status of ancestor.
