Katorga

Evgenij Solomin
2001 Russia 26 minutes Russian

In a Siberian katorga (state penitentiary), a young inmate, exhausted by heavy, dangerous labour, is waiting to appear before the commission that will decide whether he is eligible for early release. Beyond this picture of a merciless and brutal world where the authorities rule as they please, the film raises the questions of guilt, repentance, dignity and liberty.
