Kelvin and His Friends

Brian McKenzie
1987 Australia 80 minutes English

A closely observed portrait of Kelvin, a single man in his forties who lives alone in a boarding house in St Kilda, a bayside suburb of Melbourne. Although he has none of the trappings of conventional existence (a house, family or career), Kelvin’s obsessive interest in born again Christianity, physical culture and recent German/Jewish history has given him direction in his life and a way of making sense of the world. It has also led him to a number of people – friends – through whom we see something of his life and beliefs.
