Kommunikation

Communication
Edgar Reitz
1961 Germany 11 minutes no dialogs

An industrial film for the postal service: worldwide networking by means of the latest communications technology. A technophile ballet in the mysterious world of relay stations, ultrashort wave channels and decimetric bridges. In Communication, Edgar Reitz also faced the conflict inherent in bringing techno-aesthetic innovation to a commissioned work. Along with Josef Anton Riedl’s music, the film became an audio-visual icon of the nascent communication age, with the telecommunications department of the German postal service seeking to make its mark as one of its pioneers.
