L’ Aménagement du territoire

Territory
Jean Breschand
2006 France 44 minutes French

A man recounts a town and a land, blending together Lisbon, Venice and Roubaix. A sailor, or the Flying Dutchman or maybe Corto Maltese, he remembers his experiences there in a woman’s company. The topography begins to float to the rhythm of the open air, or with the inside room light. The reality of places and faces becomes cloudy, then sharpens again as an inner geography, a haunted castle. Natural elements and animals, city pavements, windows and night all mark out another land. “Slides projected onto a sheet. The breeze, mist, fine rain: basically atmospheric, special effectsdone live re-inject the images with a breath of air and a dream-like dimension. The virtue of sheets.”
