L’ Amour existe

Maurice Pialat
1961 France 21 minutes French

An indictment against the maddening living conditions of suburban populations (Courbevoie, Suresnes, Montreuil). Pialat’s film skilfully and tenderly depicts a greyish world ageing apartment blocks, shanty town streets filled with suburban-type houses, nauseating factories and crammed trains. The absurdity of uncontrolled town planning which cannot, however, exclude the existence of love.
