La Bocca del lupo

Pietro Marcello
2009 Italy 76 minutes Italian
DR

The misfortunes of Enzo, a great Sicilian bandit saved from the prison of Hell by love and poetry. Some petty trafficking, along with a bit of pimping, and wrangles with the carabiniers, an inveterate re-offender, Enzo has spent most of his life behind bars. The meanders of his chaotic life are rendered as fragments, in a disordered, disparate form. In fact, the life of Enzo, the lost ragazzo of Genoa’s underworld, is not so much the subject of La bocca del lupo as the story he creates around it: with its occasional brutality and dryness, its warmth and tragic tones, it is more akin to a lament or the blues (and thus escape) rather than a testimony or moral tale.
