La Conquête de Clichy

Christophe Otzenberger
1994 France 80 minutes French

“The story takes place in Clichy, a town in the Hauts de Seine department for which Charles Pasqua is deputy. The town and its constituency, socialist from time immemorial, are much coveted by the conservative RPR, which has charged Didier Schuller with the task of taking them over… Will he succeed, and how? And what answers do the socialists have, one year after the March 1993 defeat? Day by day for five months, I followed the staff meetings, the debates that took place on council housing estates, the work of militants and alternative associations, the ideas thrown out by some and taken up by others, the daily life at RPR headquarters, its work and promises – a local campaign which offers many similarities to the national-level campaign. I also took a look at what ideas have become…” (Christophe Otzenberger)
