A song inspired by Virgil’s Bucolics and Georgics. The countryside welcomes spring, but is infused with the sadness of those who must leave. Tityrus plays the flute under a leafy beech tree. His poetry comments on the contrast between his joy and the suffering of Meliboeus, who represents all those forced to emigrate after being expelled from their land.
