La Terre a promis au ciel

Sabina Subasic
2003 Bosnia; France 52 minutes French; bosniac

“During her sleepless nights, Shida draws over and again the portraits of her five missing sons. Like thousands of women at Srebrenica, she lives with her dreams and takes part in demonstrations to demand that justice be done. For the first time in history, a full-scale effort is being made to find the 27,731 people who disappeared during the conflict in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Taking the individual cases of Eva, Amor and Jasna, the camera follows the painful search and identification of the bodies. Overcoming the horror to restore a human being’s dignity and justice. ‘The Earth promised the Sky never to hide anything from it’, is a Muslim proverb that echoes from ex-Yugoslavia to the International Criminal Court at The Hague.” (Sabina Subasic)
