LA ÚLTIMA PELÍCULA

THE LAST MOVIE
Mark Peranson
2013 Philippines; Denmark; Mexico; Canada 88 minutes English; Spanish

“Inspired by Dennis Hopper’s unfortunate odyssey with the shooting of The Last Movie in 1971, the filmmakers imagine the story of an American filmmaker location hunting in Mexico, where he plans to shoot a film about the imminent apocalypse predicted by the Mayan calendar. The young filmmaker — accompanied by a Mexican guide who takes him to Yucatán’s Mayan pyramids where a crowd of idiotic hippies are gathered to celebrate the end of the world — little by little loses control (…). This evocation of a famous episode and figure of contemporary American history has no nostalgic or fetish-like connotation but, on the contrary, tends to show that a certain form of modern romanticism persists, against all odds, in the way today’s cinema is apprehended.”
