Le Bout du bout du monde

Stéphane Mercurio
2001 France 55 minutes French; Spanish

One day, the man of my life asked me to go off to the end of the end of the world. The end of the end of the world is Patagonia, at the southern tip of the South-American continent. A wind-swept, ice-bound land that has been described by the writer Francisco Coloane. As we read his tales, we ended up dreaming for a long time. We set off to confront this land of legends. On our voyage, we were to meet a sentimental hermit, a herdsman poet, socialist gold-seekers, the last Yamanas Indian woman, the Mapuche Indians who are still fighting… All of them seemed to be straight out of one of Coloane’s books. All of them live in this strong, hostile land of tempests, winds, ice and sky.’ (Stéphane Mercurio)
