Les Femmes du Mont Ararat

Erwann Briand
2004 France 86 minutes Kurde

In Kurdistan, as happens in many rawn-out conflicts, women are increasinglypresent. In 1996, the women fighters of the PKK Kurdish guerrilla created their own group, totally independent from the men. Constantly on the move, with no other aim than to climb the next mountain, a unit of six fighters (a manga) keeps watch for an invisible enemy, carries out manoeuvres and survives. The guerrilleras? stories bring to light terrible memories and convictions forged over the years, as well as their slender hopes. Their job also involves talking with village women?to far-too-young wives and long-resigned old women.
