When he learns of his father’s illness, Jean goes back to Algeria, the country where he was born but which he had forgotten. Yet, on his return, everything hurts him. First, his father, an old and financially ruined colonial, who lives with the mother in a modest flat in Bab el Oued and dwells on memories of the past. Then, the general environment… Filmed in Algiers and on Mitidja plain from September 61 to January 62 with Algerian and pied-noir technicians and actors, at a time when soldiers, barbed wire and bombs were the main protagonists in the landscape.
