Les Paysans — Les Racines

When a team of researchers (biologists, sociologists, ethnologues) come to study Les Baronnies, a villages in the Pyrénées, it raises questions on both sides. The peasants are sceptical and amused at the presence of city scientists. Jean Laforgue openly blames the inability of their scholarly knwoledge to account for a reality they fail to understand. The film belongs to a series of four programs about peasant society. Beyond folklore and picturesque aspects, one may feel the peasant way of looking at things, death, time, work… A culture that is disappearing.
