“Malhoune” means “folk poetry sung”. The living heritage of Moroccan folk poetry, it expresses the literary evolution of a genre that originated in the Tafilatet in the 12th century. Close to classical poetry in its poetic and rythmic force, the Malhoune is essentially an urban art, but remains an age-old expression of folk wisdom and man’s hopes, a mirror of his daily life.
