Maquette

Robert Kramer
1990 France 60 minutes French

Robert Kramer films the rehearsals of a dance company in châteauvallon, but also some local cultural figures: a painter, a writer, a rugby player.

«I filmed in châteauvallon with a dance troupe called Artefact. There is a first cut, Maquette, which is all that ever came out of it. I tried to address the relationship between the culture on the hill and the city of Toulon, which is interesting in terms what happened down there. To some extent, it’s one of the reasons that prevented me from becoming a useful participant in the attacks against the Front National. One of my nightmares was the image of this cultural centre, on top of the hill, built in a kind of tribute to Egyptian and Greek traditions, looking out over this city that was teeming with conflict and unease, regardless of the intentions of those who were managing it. I regret not having finished this film.»
